George Niven

George Niven ( born June 11, 1929 in Blair Hall, † 18 July 2008 in Kingussie ) was a Scottish football goalkeeper who, in the 1950s and 1960s for Glasgow Rangers and Partick Thistle in the Scottish Premier League, the highest Scottish league was active.

Career

Niven 1951 pro at the Glasgow Rangers and played his first match against FC Aberdeen in April 1952 in the last game of the season. He stayed for 10 years in the club, completed 327 games, won in this period five Scottish championships, twice the Scottish Cup and the League Cup.

In 1962 he moved to Partick Thistle Football Club, for which he completed 232 games. In the seasons 1962-63, 1963-64 and 1967-68 he stood without exception in all league matches on the court. After Niven was downgraded in the 1968-69 season for the second goalkeeper and had come to no use anymore, he announced his retirement from professional football.
