George Olteanu

George Raicu Crinu - Olteanu ( May 3, 1974 in Ştefăneşti, county Arges ) is a former Romanian boxer. In 1999 he was an amateur world champion bantamweight.

Boxing career

His first major international appearance, he played at the 1996 European Championships in Vejle, Denmark, where he reached No. 5. After victories against Dirk Krueger of Germany ( 17:5 ) and Sergio Spatafora of Italy ( 13:5 ), he was defeated in the quarter -final against Alexandar Hristov from Bulgaria ( 3:7 ). In the same year he took part in the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, where he was able to prevail against Samuel Alvarez from Mexico and Riadh Klai from Tunisia and in the quarter -finals losing to István Kovács from Hungary and thus was eliminated in 8th place.

At the 1997 World Championships in Budapest, he was able to the American Rocky Juarez beat, but lost in the next fight against the Germans Myrko shame with almost 7:9. Successful ran for the 1999 World Championships in Houston. Through victories against Agasi Məmmədov from Turkey, Sontaya Wongprates from Thailand, Benoit Gaudet in Canada and Kamil Dschamaludinow from Russia, he won the gold medal. Afterwards he attended the Summer Olympics in Sydney in 2000, where he was able to defeat Arthur Mikaelian from Greece and César Morales from Mexico before retiring again in the quarterfinals against Clarence Vinson of the United States.

On 5 June 2001, he played his only professional fight, which he won on points.
