George Probert

George Arthur Probert Jr., ( born March 5, 1927 in Los Angeles ) is an American clarinetist, soprano saxophonist and bandleader of Dixieland.

Probert is self-taught on his instruments and played with Bob Scobey 1950 to 1953 and then in Kid Ory 's Creole Jazz Band. With both he took on (Kid Ory Creole Jazz Band in 1954 GTJ 1954). 1954 to 1969 he was in the Firehouse Five Plus Two Dixieland revival band of which was made ​​up of studio musicians of the Disney Studios. At the same time he was musical director from 1955 at the Walt Disney Studios. From 1973, he toured with his own bands in both the U.S. ( west coast) as well as in Europe, and especially in the Netherlands ( Breda Jazz Festival) and the UK. In 1997 he toured with Big Bill Bissonette 's International Jazz Band in Europe, with whom he also recorded ( at Jazz Crusade 1997).

He recorded under his own name for Fat Cat's Jazz, Jazz Crusade and Jazzology. 1957 and 1968 he recorded with George Brunies. In 1978, he took in Budapest with the Benko Dixieland Band, and in 1973 on the Manassas Jazz Festival.
