George Stott

George Stott (* in Scotland, † April 21, 1889 in Cannes, France) was a British or Scottish Protestant missionary in China.

Life and work

George Stott was of Scottish descent, place of birth and date of birth are unknown. According to statements by his wife Grace Ciggie Scott had a 19 -year-old an accident in which there were complications, which resulted in his left leg had to be amputated. During his illness, he dealt with the teachings of Christianity. He then underwent a conversion to Jesus Christ. After his recovery, he taught at a school. He was motivated to go as a missionary to China through contacts with the newly formed "China Inland Mission " by James Hudson Taylor. Due to his disability, this was almost hopeless, but Hudson Taylor was persuaded to send him to China. He worked for 23 years in China, evangelizing in Wenzhou in Zhejiang province, where Christianity was unknown. Founded by him "Christian Church of Chengxi " is the oldest, still existing, Protestant church in the city with about 600,000 Protestant believers.
