George Taliaferro Ward

George Taliaferro Ward ( * 1810 in Fayette County, Kentucky; † May 5, 1862 at Williamsburg, Virginia) was an American politician (United States Whig Party ) and officer in the Confederate Army.

Ward was from 1833 to 1834 member of the Territorial Councils of Florida. He represented Florida 1838-1839 at the Constitutional Convention in Leon County. Then he ran in 1841 unsuccessfully for a seat in the U.S. Congress and 1848 for a seat in the U.S. Senate. In 1852 he was an unsuccessful candidate for the office of Governor of Florida. He also took first at the 1861 Florida Secession Convention and then in the Provisional Konföderiertenkongress. In the same year he also ran for the office of Senator of the Confederate States. He served during the American Civil War in the Confederate Army, where he served in the 2nd Florida the rank of colonel of infantry. Ward took place on 5 May 1862 death, when he led his regiment in the battle of Williamsburg. He was then buried in the Episcopal Cemetery in Williamsburg.
