George Tsebelis

George Tsebelis ( born 1952 ) is an American political scientist of Greek origin.

Tsebelis taught political science at the University of California at Los Angeles from 1987 to 2007. Since 2007 he teaches at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

He is known for his veto player theory. This theory tries to classify the control ability of different political systems and compare. Here the actors are of particular importance that are able to influence the ability to control critical. These actors he calls veto players. This can for example be politicians who are able to change bills or stop. There was a collective veto players (eg parliament) and independent veto players. The control ability of systems depends, among other things, how many veto players there are and how great the distance between them is.
