George Tucker (musician)

George Andrew Tucker ( born December 10, 1927 in Palatka, Florida, † October 10, 1965 in New York) was an American jazz bassist of the hard bop.

Tucker studied from 1948 in New York City at the Conservatory of Modern Music, 1957-58 and at the Juilliard School of Music and initially worked with Earl Bostic, Sonny Stitt and John Coltrane. In the late 1950s Tucker was especially in Minton 's Playhouse busy, but also played at Junior Mance, Jerome Richardson, and with his own bands. He also accompanied the vocal ensemble Lambert, Hendricks & Bavan. Tucker was involved in recording with Jaki Byard, Eric Dolphy, Bennie Green, John Handy, Clifford Jordan, Jackie McLean, Charles McPherson, Horace Parlan, Freddie Redd, Johnny Smith, Stanley Turrentine and Joe Zawinul. Tommy Flanagan and Curtis Fuller he took in 1960 for Savoy Records, the album Jazz ... It's Magic! on.
