Georges Auric
Georges Auric (* February 15, 1899 in Lodève, Hérault, † July 23, 1983 in Paris) was a French composer.
Life
Auric was part of the Groupe des Six, a group of composers by Francis Poulenc, which propagated a new, simple style in contrast to the musical Impressionism in France and the late-romantic music of Richard Wagner. 1962 Auric became director of the Paris Opera.

In the years before the Second World War Auric was also a busy and respected music critic and columnist, among other things, Paris- Soir, Nouvelles littéraires, Marianne ( magazine). Later he was for decades (1954-1978) President of the French collecting society SACEM, which corresponds to the German GEMA. From 1962 to 1968 he was chairman of the " Réunion des Theatres lyriques nationaux ".
Auric received an honorary grave in the Paris cemetery celebrities cimetière du Montparnasse.
