Georges Mareschal

Georges Mareschal, 1707 Georges Mareschal, Seigneur de Bièvre ( born April 8, 1658 Calais, France, † December 13, 1736 at Château de Bièvre ) was the first surgeon and confidant of Louis XIV and Louis XV. and founder of the " Académie de Chirurgie ".

Life

His father, John Marshall was an Irishman. In the army of Louis XIII served and was knighted after the Battle of Rocroi (1643 ), including the official transfer of the name into French.

Mareschal came to Paris in 1677 and worked with the master surgeon Simon Le Breton ( † April 25, 1694 ). 1684 he went to the Charité Hospital, Hôpital de la Charité where he himself "Master Surgeon " and in 1692 " chief surgeon " was 1688. He modified and improved the lithotomy ( lithotomy; surgical removal of stones).

In 1703, Mareschal, after he had several personalities, including King Louis XIV surgery, "First Surgeon " and later " Maître d'hôtel ". In 1707 he was elevated to the names at stimulating " Seigneur de Bièvre " to the peerage. He was with Marie Roger (ca. 1665-1738 ) married, both she had three children.

On 18 December 1731, he founded the " Royal Academy of Surgery " ( " L' Académie Royale de Chirurgie " ) in Paris. After his death, his former student François Gigot de la Peyronie became his successor.
