Georgia is a city in the state of Vermont in the United States. With 4,515 inhabitants (according to 2010 census ) it is by Swanton and St. Albans the third largest municipality in Franklin County.

Georgia, founded in August 1763 as a British colony, is named after the then British King George III. The namesake, Governor Benning Wentworth, trying in this way to prevent the colony Vermont the colony of New York was slammed in which it gave the city the name already. Wentworth was convinced that King George would accept no two the same, cities named after him in the same area. He was right.

During the war against the British colony of Canada ( 1812) a trade embargo was imposed on the American side. While most border areas underwent this embargo, it was taken very seriously in Georgia. The embargo was so effective that the smugglers Georgia nicknamed Hells Gate - Gates of Hell - gave. This epithet is used to this day, even though its origin is largely forgotten.

Surrounding municipalities are in the north of St. Albans, ten kilometers away, to the northeast at 16 Kilometres Distance Fairfield and Fairfax, about ten kilometers to the east. Nine kilometers south is Milton in neighboring Chittenden County. Also in a neighboring County, Grand Isle County, located in the western Grand Isle, North Hero and South Hero at a distance of - as the crow flies - 13 to 18 kilometers away.

The center of Burlington with its international airport, located in the south is thirty kilometers away. By its own access to U.S. Highway 7 Georgia is also connected to the Inter-American highway network.

In place two religious communities are established, a Baptist and a Roman Catholic. An elementary and middle school, two local history museums and a library complete the public facilities.
