Georgy Babakin

Georgi Nikolaevich Babakin (Russian Георгий Николаевич Бабакин; * 31 Oktoberjul / November 13 1914greg in Moscow, .. † August 3, 1971 ) was a Soviet aerospace engineer. From 1965 until his death he was chief designer of the Lavochkin Design Bureau ( OKB -301) and was responsible for example for the construction of the Mars probes Mars 2 and 3.

There is the belief that to be the loss of the Soyuz -11 crew and the N1 launcher coincided apt death had a powerful demoralizing effect on the Soviet space program.

The Babakin crater on the Moon and the same crater on Mars are named in his honor after him.
