Georgy Boos

Georgi Valentinovich Boos (Russian Ausspr: . / Bɐɔs /, Russian Георгий Валентинович Боос; born January 22, 1963 in Moscow ) is a Russian politician and businessman of German descent. From 2005 to 2010 he was governor of the Kaliningrad Oblast.

Life and career

Boos grew up in Moscow in a family krimdeutschen and graduated there in 1986 to study engineering from. Then he made two years military service near the town Spassk- Dalni in the Far East of the former Soviet Union. After military service he worked from 1988 to 1991 in a technology research institute and was parallel working as a math teacher at a middle school in Moscow. In 1991 he founded together with some of his colleagues " Swetoserwis ", an initially small company that specialized in the research and production in the field of lighting technology. After 1993 the company became a public limited company, Boos took over the office of the Director General, which he held until 1995.

Political career

Boos ' career in politics began in 1996, after he was elected in late 1995 as a deputy of a Moscow constituency in the parliamentary elections to the State Duma. In the Duma Boos initially joined the Group at Our House Russia and became Deputy Chairman of the Group. In early 1999 Boos was convened briefly in the Russian government, where he held the position of Minister of taxes and duties, until he was dismissed in May of the same year, together with the Cabinet Primakov by then President Boris Yeltsin. In the parliamentary elections in late 1999 Boos was re-elected and took from there the fraction of the Putin -related party "United Russia ". Boos ran also in the following parliamentary elections in 2003 successfully in the same constituency and was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Duma faction " United Russia ".

On 28 September 2005 Boos went to the office of Governor of the Kaliningrad Oblast, in which he had previously been appointed by Vladimir Putin. During his tenure, it came in the wake of the economic crisis to protest against the regional government under Boos and partly against the central government in Moscow. Primarily, the protesters demanded a reduction in the area occupied by the Oblast road tax. 2010 was reported Boos will not be proposed due to its lack of popularity among the population of the Kaliningrad Oblast for another term as governor.

After time as governor

On December 28, 2011 Georgy Boos was elected to the Board of the All-Russia Exhibition Centre.

In addition, Boos was appointed Chief Executive Officer for the Russian energy group " Holding MRSK " on 26 January 2012.

Private

Georgi Valentinovich Boos was married three times. From the three marriages six daughters have emerged. His hobbies are playing guitar and ride a motorcycle.

In 2009, the annual income of Georgy Boos was claims to 86.4 million rubles, which corresponds to the equivalent of 2.2 million EUR.
