Georgy Chistyakov

Georgi Petrovich Chistyakov (Russian Георгий Петрович Чистяков; * August 4, 1953 in Moscow, † 22 June 2007 in Moscow) was Russian Orthodox priest, theologian, historian and philologist.

Biography

Georgi was born as a child by Pyotr Chistyakov Georgijewitsch († 1987) and Olga Nikolaevna ( † 25 January 2008). His father was a mathematics teacher at the military academy for engineers of the Air Force, " Prof. NJ Zhukovsky, "his mother a lecturer at the Faculty of Biology at Moscow State University.

From 1970 to 1975 he studied at the historical faculty of the Moscow State University. In 1983 he received his doctorate with a dissertation on Pausanias, entitled Труды Павсания как исторический источник ( The works of Pausanias as a historical source ). From 1975 to 1993 he taught at the Moscow State Linguistic University Latin and Greek, he also gave an introduction to the Romance languages ​​and Romance languages ​​. From 1985 to 1999 he held the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology lectures on biblical, theology and church history topics and had 1983 to 1999 the Department of History of Culture held. From 1991 to 2002 he also worked at the State University of Human Sciences. Outside of Russia Chistyakov held lectures from Italy, France, Italy and the United States. From 2000, he headed the department of religious literature of the All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature.

1992 Chistyakov was ordained a deacon ordination followed in 1993. His service he performed at the consecration in the Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian in the center of Moscow. From 1994 he was also the leader of a church in a children's hospital. After a cancer Chistyakov died at the age of 54.

Activity

Besides his work as an academic teacher Chistyakov was a member of several scientific associations and worked with in various magazines, such as also in appearing in Milan La Nuova Europe.

As a pastor Chistyakov worked at Children's Hospital, came from the children and parents from all over Russia. In addition, many sermons and speeches of the priest were recorded and partially also broadcast on radio.

Chistyakov translated ancient Greek, Latin and Italian into Russian writers, such as Plutarch, Livy or Niccolò Machiavelli, further submitted by him about 200 mostly scientific articles and several books - especially this one with a religious theme.
