Geox SpA is a publicly traded Italian fashion company based in Montebelluna ( province of Treviso). The company is known for the products sold under the brand Geox shoes.

History

Mario Moretti Polegato accidentally discovered that the microclimate can be improved in shoes by drilling holes in the sole, and then developed a new shoe sole. In the 1990s, Geox tried his concept to establish itself on the market in cooperation with, inter alia, elephants ( infancy ). After trying unsuccessfully to sell his idea for incumbent manufacturers, he founded his own company in 1995 and began production. In 1999 it expanded its range of outerwear under the brand Geox apparel. 2000 began the internationalization, the first stores were opened outside of Italy. On 1 October 2004, the IPO, the company has since been listed on the Milan Stock Exchange. 2008 Geox athletic shoes took on in his program, 2009 Golf Shoes.

Operations

With a share of over 85 % in 2012 put shoes by far the most important product of the company represents the products are sold through retailers as well as through its own shops (mono- label stores ) - 2012 there were 1212 - sold.

In Austria operational until 2011 Stiefelkönig belonging BAWAG, as a franchisee 20 branches. Beginning of the year sold BAWAG this to the franchisor itself

In March 2008, the share of Geox SpA was was added to the S & P MIB Index, the blue chip index of the Milan Stock Exchange, they replaced there Alitalia. She is now no longer represented.

Principal owner is the family Polegato, which owns 71.1 % of the shares, the remainder is in free float.

Geox was the main sponsor of the cycling team Geox - TMC. In addition, Geox since 2011 shoe outfitter of Red Bull Racing.
