Gerald Frederick Kicanas

Gerald Frederick Kicanas ( born August 18, 1941 in Chicago) is an American priest and Bishop of Tucson.

Life

The Archbishop of Chicago, Cardinal John Patrick Cody, ordained him priest on 27 April 1967.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 24 January 1995 on the Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago and Titular Bishop of Bela. The archbishop of Chicago, Joseph Louis Cardinal Bernardin, donated to him on March 20th of that year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops in Chicago Alfred Leo Abramowicz and Timothy Joseph Lyne. As a motto he chose Justice begets peace.

On 30 October 2001 he was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Tucson and introduced into the office on 15 January next year. Following the resignation of Manuel Duran Moreno followed him on 7 March 2003 by the Bishop of Tucson.
