Gerald Nagler

Gerald Nagler ( born December 10, 1929 in Vienna) is an Austrian- Swedish entrepreneur. For years, he is actively for the protection of human rights.

Life

Nagler moved in 1931 at the age of two years with his family from Vienna to Stockholm. After successfully finishing school, he first worked in a company founded by his father. On the advice of a friend, the American rabbi Morton Narrowe, Nagler finally went in 1977 to the Soviet Union, where he, among others, together with Andrei Sakharov and his wife Yelena Bonner discrimination against the Jews, the so-called refusenik, strongly made ​​.

Nagler is the co-founder of the Vienna-based International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights, to which he headed from 1982 to 1992. From 1992 to 2004 he headed the Swedish Helsinki Committee for Human Rights and is now its Honorary Chairman.
