Career

Geraldine Brooks was born in 1925 as the daughter of Dutch parents. Her mother was a Theaterkostümbildnerin and her father had a costume shop in New York. She received a drama school in New York and first played in repertory theaters in the province. In 1947 she got her first film role. She starred opposite Errol Flynn and Barbara Stanwyck in Cry Wolf. In 1952 she made ​​her Broadway debut. At the same time she started in numerous television series to play and was only sporadically seen on the big screen. In 1958, she married television writer Herbert Sargent. The couple had divorced in 1961. 1964 married Geraldine Brooks the writer and Oscar winner Budd Schulberg. They were married until her untimely death in 1977. Geraldine Brooks died of breast cancer.
