Gérard d'Aboville

Gérard d' Aboville ( born September 5, 1945 in Paris ) is a French navigator and politicians. He initiated a solo crossing of oceans in a rowing boat. D' Aboville has a seat in the municipal council of Paris for the UMP.

Biography

Gérard d' Aboville is a direct descendant of Augustin Gabriel d' Aboville, a General of the First French Empire, and his son Auguste Ernest d' Aboville, politicians of the Second French Empire and the beginning of the Third Republic.

In 1980 he crossed the first solo rower the Atlantic, he left Cape Cod (USA) on 10 July and arrived after 71 days and 23 hours and a distance of 5200 kilometers in Brest on 21 September. His boat, The Captain Cook measured 5.60 meters. In the same year he took with his four brothers at the Rally Paris -Dakar in part on the bike. 1985, he organized and designed the boats for the Expedition Africa -Raft of Phillippe de Dieuleveult. In 1991 he rowed across the Pacific, he left Choshi (Japan) on 10 July and reached the American coast on November 21. In 1993 he published Seul ( Alone ), a novel that tells how a diary of his journey in 1991.

In 2001, he flew with a small single-engine airplane accompanied by Hubert de Chevigny and Bernard Lafferrière the North Pole (a private expedition ) without electronic navigation instruments. In 2006, he joined the PlanetSolar project with co- skipper. This was the first with solar energy to circumnavigate the world the goal in the spring of 2011.

Since then he has been involved in the fight for environmental awareness and conservation of the seas with La Fondation du patrimoine maritime et fluvial He is also Chairman of the Conseil supérieur de la navigation de plaisance et des sports nautiques.

In January 2008, he declared his candidacy for the post of mayor of the 15th arrondissement (Paris) against the candidate of the UMP. On March 9, 2008, he got about 10 % of the votes, so a pass on the second attempt was possible. He merged his list with another. Since the 16th of March, he sits in the council of the 15th arrondissement and is a member of the city council of Paris.
