Gerardo Matos Rodríguez

Gerardo Hernan Matos Rodríguez ( born March 28, 1897 in Montevideo, Uruguay, † April 25, 1948 ibid ) was an Uruguayan pianist, composer and journalist. He became famous through the 1916 La Cumparsita Tango written by him, until today the best known of all tango of all time.

He grew up as the son of cabaret owner Emilio Matos on in Montevideo. A recorded architectural studies, he broke off. Later, he traveled extensively through Europe and stayed for a while in Paris, but also worked as Uruguayan consul in Germany. In 1931 he contributed to the soundtrack of Luces de Buenos Aires, which was shot in Joinville ( France) and the Carlos Gardel played the lead role.

In addition to La Cumparsita he has composed the tango Che papusa, oi, Son grupos, Yo Tuve una novia, Cuando el bronca temporal, Hablame, Pobre corazón, Haceme caso a mí, Canto por no llorar, Pink Reseca, Botija linda, El pescador, Te Fuiste, ¡ yes, yes, Adiós Argentina, Wed Provinciana, La milonga azul, Dale celos, Raspail, Mocosita, La muchacha del circo, San Telmo.
