Gerasim Khugayev

Gerasim Georgijewitsch Chugajew (Russian Герасим Георгиевич Хугаев; Ossetian Хуыгаты Георгийы фырт Герасим; * November 15, 1945 in Tschassawal, South Ossetian Autonomous Oblast ) is a South Ossetian politician. He was from 1993 to 1994 and from 2001 to 2003 Prime Minister of his country.

Biography

Gerasim Chugajew in 1945 in what is now South Ossetia, then still part of the Soviet Union, was born. He studied from 1975 to 1981 at the philosophical Fakuktät the Lomonosov University in Moscow. Chugajew eventually went into politics and became a member of Oblastkomitees of South Ossetia. When the Soviet Union finally collapsed and it came to armed conflict between South Ossetia's independence fighters and the Georgian troops, he led South Ossetian units. As South Ossetia had reached its de facto independence, Chugajew was 1993-1994 Prime Minister of his country. From December 2001 to August 2003, he held this office again.
