Gerbil leaf-eared mouse

Paralomys Gerbillus is a living in Peru rodent species from the group of the New world.

These animals reach a head -body length 7-11 centimeters, the tail is about 7 to 12 inches long. The coat color is at the top of ocher-brown, interspersed with black or dark brown hair, the underside is white or beige. The ears are very large, reaching up to 27 percent of the body length. The hind legs are extended.

These animals are located in the Peruvian region of Piura, where they inhabit deserts. About their life little is known.

The taxonomic status of this species is controversial. It is the only species of the genus Paralomys, but is often classified in the genus of leaf earrings mice ( Phyllotis ). The differences between these two species are in the construction of the molars and in detail in the cranial structure.

The IUCN classifies the type that incorporates them in Phyllotis as " not at risk " ( least concern ).
