Gerhard Dünnhaupt

Gerhard Dünnhaupt, FRSC ( born August 15, 1927 in Bernburg (Saale ) ) is a German German scholar, bibliographer and book historian. He wrote an annotated bibliography of German Baroque literature.

Background and Career

Dünnhaupt the son of a book printer and publisher is from Köthen (Anhalt). He studied from 1964 Modern Languages ​​and Literatures at the University of Toronto and received his doctorate in 1972 at Brown University ( USA), the German versions of the epic by Ludovico Ariosto and Torquato Tasso.

Since 1972, he taught German literature and bibliography at the University of Washington, four years later he moved to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where he taught until 1992 Literature and Comparative Literature. In between, he also met a visiting professor at the University of Illinois, the University of Göttingen and at Cornell University. Since 1992 he is Professor Emeritus of the University of Michigan and also an honorary professor at Queen 's University in Kingston ( Canada). Dünnhaupt is an honorary member of the Modern Language Association and a Fellow of the Academies of Arts, Humanities and Sciences of Canada.

Research priorities

Thin Haupt's research focuses on the German Renaissance and Baroque Literature and the bibliography and the book and cultural history of the early modern period. The Fruitful society and the history of his homeland Anhalt also belong to the topics covered in numerous articles. He was editor of the " rarities litterarum " and review editor of " Michigan Germanic Studies". In September 1983, he organized the "Martin Luther Quincentennial Conference ".
