Gerhard Königsrainer

Gerhard König Rainer ( born March 16, 1968 in Meran ) is an Italian former Alpine skier. The South Tyrolean from Tscherms occurred only in his specialty discipline in the World Cup giant slalom.

Career

International Start

Gerhard König Rainer drove on 21 February 1986, seventeen years his first international race at the 5th Alpine Ski Junior World Cup 1986 in Bad Kleinkirchheim in Carinthia and reached the 10th place in the giant slalom. After a long pause, the South Tyrolean 1993 Italian champion in the giant slalom. On 23 March 1993, the now 25 -year-old Tschermser brought in alpine ski world cup in 1993 in Oppdal in Norway its first twelve World Cup points.

Best World Cup season 1993/94

In that winter season of Burggräfler drove in the giant slalom three times in the top ten in the Alpine Skiing World Cup in 1994. He won a total of 163 World Cup points, the 46th place in the overall standings and 15th place in the giant slalom his best World Cup season. FIS Race Winner of the 1994/95

The 1994/95 season was his weakest World Cup season. But the man from Tscherms won this winter five FIS race in his body giant slalom discipline and swung in the European Cup in 1994/95 seven times in the top ten, where he climbed the podium twice. Also in the Far East Cup 1995 in Korea and in the Italian Championship he came each in the top ten in the giant slalom.

Gold medal in the European Cup in 1995/96

Königsrainer opened the 1995/96 season with a 5th place in the Giant Slalom at the Alpine Skiing World Cup in 1995 in Tignes in France. On 12 February 1996, the giant slalom specialist in Kranjska Gora in Slovenia won the giant slalom in the European Cup 1995 /96 apply. As vice- champion of the Italian Championship giant slalom rider finished on 29 March 1996, the season in Ponte di Legno.

World Cup champions Italy and 1996/97

The 1996/97 season had two highlights for Königsrainer. On February 12, 1997, he won his best finish in a world championship with the 13th place in the giant slalom at the 34th Alpine World Skiing Championships 1997 in Sestriere. On 27 March 1997, the South Tyrolean eventually won for the second time after 1993 the Italian Championship in Cerreto Laghi.

Last World Cup success in 1997/98

On 26 October 1997, the man from Burggrafenamt started with a 10th place in the giant slalom race at the Alpine Skiing World Cup in 1998 in Tignes in the new season. His best finish was a fourth place in the European Cup Giant Slalom 1997/98 in Sella Nevea on 14 February 1998. Otherwise, he was still eight times in the top ten at the FIS races this season.

Decline and final success in 1998/99

Königsrainer this season began symptomatic with an unfinished World Cup races. Even in the five subsequent World Cup races different from the Tschermser prematurely. Nevertheless, he came in the European Cup in 1998/99 eight times in the top ten and drove it twice in second on the podium. Thus he took the overall victory in the giant slalom and 8th place in the overall standings in the Alpine Skieuropacup 1999. He also drove in seven FIS races again in the top ten, but retired at the Italian Championship at the end of the season in late March 1999.
