Gerhard V of Jülich

Gerhard V of Jülich (* before 1250, † July 29, 1328 ) was from 1297 until his death, Count of Jülich.

Life

Gerhard was the youngest son of Count William IV of Jülich and Margaret of Geldern, a daughter of Count Gerhard IV.

Gerhard followed his brother Walram as Count of Jülich, supported King Adolf of Nassau in 1298 at the Battle of Göllheim, submitted himself to King Albert I and retained all the fiefs. He helped him in 1300 against the Rhenish electors, which also came to meet his interests related to Cologne and won, among other duties, the flow Kaiserwerth, ( monks ) Gladbach, boiler Grevenbroich, Reydt, Münstereifel / Bergheim and Müllenark. He supported the war in 1313 in the throne Louis IV of Bavaria and allowed his coronation in Aachen against the will of the Archbishop of Cologne.

Progeny

Gerhard married his first wife, a daughter of Count Wilhelm von Kessel. His second wife he married Elizabeth of Brabant - Arschot, daughter of Count Gottfried. This marriage produced the following offspring:
