Gerhard von Tiesenhausen

Gerhard von Tiesenhausens ( Latvian Gerhards fon Tīzenhauzens; * 14 Apriljul / April 26 1878greg in Tartu, .. † October 26, 1917 in Tiraspol ) was an architect of the Art Nouveau of Riga.

Life

A native of the old nobility deutschbaltischem Gerhard von Tiesenhausens studied in Riga and Paris architecture and graduated from the Riga Polytechnic Institute in 1907. Then he entered the architectural office of Edmund Trompowskys, a renowned architect in Riga.

Both had significant contribution to the construction activity in Kaiserwald district (now Mežaparks ), originated in the early 20th century, one of the first garden cities in Europe with many Art Nouveau villas. About half of the buildings comes from Tiesenhausens. 1910 started his own business of Tiesenhausens. He made ready some very interesting works that have been preserved in Riga, for example, the building 4/6 and 8/ 10 in the Glika iela.

After the outbreak of the First World War was convened by Tiesenhausens as a military architect. He died as a result of an accident in Tiraspol. At his house in the Szczecin Road 25 in Kaiserwald a commemorative plaque was installed in 2003.
