Gerling-Preis

The Gerling price is a German horse racing for four years and older racehorses. It will be held at the racecourse Weidenpesch, Cologne over a distance of 2,400 meters and takes place in late April or early May each year.

History

The race was founded in 1921 and originally called the price of Birlinghoven. The distance was often modified during the early years. Its current name was given the event in 1934 as Robert Gerling, founder of the insurance company Gerling, sponsor and thus the namesake of the race was flat.

The current distance of the Gerling price above 2,400 meters is ridden since 1969. It had from 1972 to 1974 and again between 1984 and 1988 the status of a Group 3 race. 1989, rose to become a Group 2 race. It is currently the oldest continuously supported by a sponsor horse racing in Germany.
