German Actuarial Society

The German Association of Actuaries (DAV ) is the professional association of actuaries in Germany acting as insurance, building society and financial mathematicians based in Cologne.

Membership

Around 4,000 members (as of October 15, 2013 ) are organized in the Association and in addition currently located about 1,800 insurance and financial mathematicians in the regulated training course as an actuary.

In 1995, the DAV had 1100 members, whose number has increased annually by 30 to 300 people, at 2250 members in 2004.

Membership

The usual way to gain membership of the German Actuarial Association, is the deposition of the tests in ground and in the special knowledge. For this purpose, a mathematics degree or comparable this study and a corresponding professional experience is required.

The membership, which entitled to use the title " actuary (DAV) ", is by the examination regulations currently valid 9 Basic tests ahead, in:

  • Personal Insurance Mathematics ( life, health and pension insurance mathematics)
  • Non-life insurance mathematics
  • Financial Mathematics I ( basic principles of insurance and financial mathematics)
  • Financial Mathematics II ( Financial Mathematics and Investment Management )
  • Insurance Economics
  • Statistical methods / risk theory
  • Accounting for actuaries
  • Modeling
  • Value -and risk - based management

In addition to required courses in " professional customer ", " legal basis " and "information processing" will be completed. After three years of work experience must be passed to complete a depression test ( specialized knowledge ).

Members of foreign actuarial associations that are working as actuaries in Germany, may be granted at the request of a temporary associate membership. In addition, the General Meeting may appoint, on a proposal of the Executive Board Honorary Members. Representatives of foreign actuarial associations may be appointed by board resolution to " corresponding members ".

All members who are natural persons, with the exception of " corresponding members ", the designation lead " actuary DAV ".

Statute

One of the statutory objectives include ensuring the qualifications of actuaries based on a unified profession and appropriate professional conduct and to represent the interests of Actuaries.

Another formulated in the Articles of Association aims at promoting the European community of the profession of actuaries. To this end, the club is a member of the Groupe des Associations d' Consultative Actuaires Pays des Communauté Europeennes and the International Actuarial Association ( IAA).

The DAV is committed to establishing connection to the German Association of Insurance and Financial Mathematics Association ( DGVFM ). Members of the DAV can be a member of the DGVFM without a special admission procedure and without a declaration of accession.

Institutions of DAV are the Board and the General Assembly. Financial year is the calendar year.

History

In the German Association for Insurance Science eV was constituted on April 4, 1903 in Berlin, the " Department of Actuarial Mathematics ". From this department, both the DAV and the DGVFM in November 2003 emerged.
