The German Humboldt School in Guayaquil, Ecuador, is a private school in the non-profit sponsorship of the school association Asociación Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil. She is one of the so-called encounter schools in which both German as native children can learn together. The German Humboldt School to Guayaquil is funded and staffed by the Federal Republic of Germany and is one of 117 German schools abroad.

History

The Humboldt School, named after Alexander (1769-1859) and Wilhelm von Humboldt (1767-1835), was founded in 1957 by Renate Lembke as kindergarten for German emigrants. Initially, she was responsible for ten children in their own homes. Later it developed into a primary school for children of other European countries and Ecuador. 1959 founded Richard Zeller and Claus Riemann officially the school. Already in the 60 years this has developed into a high school with a new site in Urdesa district. The current location in Los ceibos district was built in the 70s for reasons of space. Today, learn about 2000 students at the second-largest German school in Ecuador. One third of each year study following the Abitur in Germany.

In April 2009, a branch of the kindergarten children cosmos was opened in the suburb samborondon.

Infrastructure

The school has, among other science laboratories, a library, an auditorium for audio-visual, mechanical and electrical workshops, music rooms, a sports multi-purpose hall, a football and athletics facilities and a swimming pool. Theater and music events are held in the Grey salon.

Profile

It is taught on the basis of Baden-Württemberg curricula, whereby Ecuadorian and IBO guidelines to be considered.

The nursery consists of three stages, each with five classes separated by age. Similarly as in Sweden or Hungary educators have completed a teaching degree with an emphasis on children's education ( Párvulos ). Unlike in Germany, there are curricula for each level and firm timetables for each class, so that is prepared for the first class. German lessons are introduced through play. The children also have music, swimming and physical education. A team of psychologists accompanied the progress and any difficulties the children.

The pupil - teacher ratio is unique in Guayaquil. In the pre - and primary school 20 students are taught by two teachers. After each class ( of 20 students in upper secondary education less) taught by a class or subject teacher. The language classes are held in groups of ten students. The teacher is always native speakers.

In the secondary I and II several subjects are taught in German, for example, mathematics, physics, biology, history and art. The school attaches great importance to science education. The classrooms for physics, chemistry and biology are modern and comparable to German classrooms. Nevertheless, the teaching of literature has an important position, as some teachers and teachers are recognized writers in the country. In the secondary level, there is the possibility to an International High School in humanistic branch, called the International Baccalaureate, in a special mixed-language version. The scientific and economic research profile can be supplemented by a college degree.

Another special feature of the dual training by offering after graduation possibilities of education according to German standards. This is for graduates of local schools with German knowledge open.

Exchange programs

  • After the ninth grade completion of the entire year takes part in an exchange program in southern Germany. Students stay for six weeks with a host family and visit during which the local high school. The finale is a two-week educational trip through Germany.
