German Speedway Championship

The list of German Champion in Speedway leads all individual champion in speedway on in the Federal Republic of Germany and the GDR. The German title is the most important competition for German speedway rider. The finals will take place on an annually changing place, where most cities are selected in which the railway sport has a greater prominence, such as in Half Moon in north at motodrome Half Moon or the Paul- Greifzu Stadium in Stralsund. Before the finale, there are several qualifying rounds that must survive the driver to move into the final. A total of 17 riders take part in the finals. The defending champion is already set for the final.

The first Championship was conducted in 1962 in the GDR. In 1979 came the first championship in the Federal Republic. 1991 and 2004 the championship was conducted at the Grand Prix system, similar to the World Cup, in different places races, known as Grand Prix, to be carried out and get the drivers for their respective standings points, which are added to determine the champion. Moreover, the German Championships were held as International German Championships from 1991 to 2001, in which non- German riders were allowed to participate.

There is also a German Junior Championship, in which only drivers are eligible under 21 years. The team Championship titles are awarded on the Bundesliga.

The only one who could get a medals in both the Germans and in the East German championship is Mike Ott, the 1990 GDR champion and was twice third in the German Championship.
