Germigney, Haute-Saône

Germigney is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Germigney situated at an altitude of 212 m above sea level, 9 km south-southwest of Gray and 39 km west-northwest of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the southwest of the department, in the plain of the valley of the Saône Gray east, on the northern edge of the Bois lady.

The area of ​​15.10 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside between the valleys of the Saone in the north and in the south Ognon. The western boundary runs along the Saône. This here flows south through a flat area which is on average 180 m. In the lowlands at La Loge is a body of water that serves as a flood control reservoir and recreational area. From the river, the municipality's area extends eastward to the adjacent plateau (mean 230 m). It is composed of Tertiary sediments. Predominant are here extensive forest areas ( Bois and Bois de la Dame Roture ), in between there are some clearings. With 247 meters, the highest elevation of Germigney is achieved in the Bois lady. The agricultural section at Germigney is drained by the Ruisseau la Roye Saône.

To Germigney the settlement La Loge (210 m) is on the plateau east of the valley of the Saône. Neighboring communities of Germigney are Apremont in the north, Le Tremblois in the east, and Vadans Broye Aubigney - Montseugny in the south and Talmay in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Germigney belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Since the 12th century, the existence of the parish Germigney is occupied. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Due to a major fire in 1840 two thirds of all houses in the village were destroyed. Today Germigney is a member of the 16- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Val de Gray.

Attractions

The church of Notre -Dame de la Nativity was extensively rebuilt in 1763. It has a rich interior, including a carved wooden altar from the 18th century and a crucifix from the 17th century.

Population

With 179 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Germigney is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1901 361 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Was Germigney until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Gray after Broye. Further road links exist with Champvans and Vadans.
