Gerry Bridgwood

Gerald " Gerry " Bridgwood ( born October 17, 1944 † 2 March 2012) was an English footballer. In his 14 seasons in the Football League extensive career he came to over 200 professional games.

Sports career

Bridgwood debuted in 1961 for Stoke City in the match against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Second Division. In the following years he came under manager Tony Waddington only sporadically used - in the promotion season 1962/63 he played four games - only middle of the decade he was at times more frequently in the game in the First Division. When the team in 1964, the final of the Football League Cup against Leicester City - in the playoff lost his club - reached, he was indeed involved on the way to the final in the initial rounds of this success, however, in any of the final two games, he was with of the party. Overall, he was active in 95 league games for the club, but he scored eight goals.

1968 moved Bridgwood for £ 12,000 to Shrewsbury Town in the Third Division. By 1973 he was in 117 games for the third division, and scored seven goals, injury no höherklassiger football was more then possible.

Bridgwood ran a pub after end of his career. A few days after he had given them, he died of a heart attack at the age of 67 years.
