Gesang Martohartono

Singing Martohartono ( born October 1, 1917 † 20 May, 2010 Surakarta, Jawa Tengah, Indonesia) was an Indonesian musician and composer.

Biography

Shortly thereafter he composed in 1940 with the Keroncong classic Bengawan Solo ( Solo River ), his most famous song. This song was not known after its first publication, as well as playing in the local radio SRV only in Indonesia but also in Japan and other Asian countries. This is achieved wide recognition in particular during the occupation of Java by the Imperial Japanese Army during the Second World War.

His other well-known songs include Tangan (hand ), 1941, Tirtonadi, 1942, and Jembatan Merah ( Red Bridge ), 1943.

After the sovereignty of Indonesia, he received after the opening of the regional station of Radio Republik Indonesia Surakarta in 1950 his own Keroncong radio program.

In 2003 he received for his life's work the price of Indonesian Records Museum, and in 2004 a price for it, that his song Bengawan Solo is the Indonesian song with the most cover versions.
