Gesäuse National Park

The National Gesäuse was founded on October 26, 2002 and extends Austrian province of Styria on the municipalities Admont, John Bach, Weng, Hieflau, Mooslandl and St. Gallen.

Geography

The currently 11,054 acres ( 110 km ²) large area is located west of Ennsknies in Upper Styria. The planning area to start up times included a total of 125 km ². About 99 % of today's surface are the property of the Styrian Provincial Forestry, only small amounts are Wassergut Public or private ownership. Characteristic features are the steep Gesäuseberge with its distinctive rock and gorge-like valley section of the Enns between Gesäuseeingang and Hieflau. The altitude ranges from 490 m to 2369 m ( high door ).

Zoning

The National Park is divided into a nature area and a conservation zone. The nature area includes around 75 % of the area and will remain tamper- free after completion of planned management measures. The conservation zone allows limited use of forms (such as extensive Serviced ) and includes infrastructure.

  • The National Park office is located in Weng.
  • In the midst of the national park, in Gstatterboden, is the National Park Pavilion. The building offers a fascinating view of catering to the Hochtorgruppe. The building made ​​of wood, glass and concrete is held in the National Park colors.

History

  • End of the 19th century was founded, the Styrian Provincial Forestry as protection against land speculation.
