Gevresin

Gevresin is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Gevresin is located on 663 m above sea level, approximately 25 km west-northwest of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in a depression between the deep erosion valley of Lison in the west and the high plateau of Levier in the east.

The area of ​​6.91 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area occupied by the depression of Gevresin. It is crossed by a stream, but the seeps in the area of the village in a sip hole. This trough is bordered to the south and north of several parallel ridges terrain. To the south and east of the communal land extends into the extensive grove of Forêt de Levier. The northern boundary is formed by the crest of the Côte Brochet. Here the highest elevation of Gevresin is achieved with 783 m.

Neighboring communities of Gevresin are Montmahoux in the north, Labergement -du- Navois and Levier in the east, Villeneuve- d'Amont in the south and Crouzet Migette in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Gevresin belonged to the rule Montmahoux, which was under the suzerainty of the lords of Chalon. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Attractions

The village church of Sainte -Madeleine was built in 1823-1826 and restored in 1970. In the old town some farmhouses are obtained in the characteristic style of the Haut-Doubs from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Population

With 116 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) is one of the smallest municipalities of Gevresin Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 197 persons were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Gevresin was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and animal husbandry, as well as by the forestry village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.
