Gewürztraminer

Gewürztraminer, also called Red Traminer, Traminer is a grape variety with reddish berries. In the region of Baden also the name Klevner or Clevner is approved. The exact origin is unknown (probably South-Eastern Europe, and possibly Egypt). The name comes from Tramin in South Tyrol, where wines are documented since the 11th century under that name. In Germany, the cultivation of the vine in 1500 in the composite rate is held (eg Riesling). Gewürztraminer produces very aromatic wines that recall the scent of rose petals and lychee.

Cultivation

The low-acid Gewürztraminer matures in rather low yields medium late, reaches high must weights and is characterized by intense aromas. Rose, litchi, bitter orange and marzipan are varietal characteristic taste or odor notes. The Vine puts high demands on exposure and soil, the latter should be easy to be heated, deep and not too dry. The species tends to form suckers. In the case of infection with the transmitted by nematodes fanleaf disease of crop failure is stronger when compared with other varieties on the average.

The vine is susceptible to mutation, so there are a variety of game types.
