Géza Ottlik
Géza Ottlik ( born May 9, 1912 in Budapest, † October 9, 1990 ) was a Hungarian writer, translator, mathematician and bridge theorist. He is considered a prominent figure in Hungarian intellectual scene.
Géza Ottlik attended military schools in Köszeg and Budapest in Budapest and studied mathematics and physics. During the Second World War, he hid a Jewish friend from persecution by the fascists. He was honored as Righteous Among the Nations.
He translated among others Works by George Bernard Shaw, Evelyn Waugh, Thomas Mann and Stefan Zweig into Hungarian and wrote several bridge books.
His most famous novel is called The School at the border and appeared in 1959. 1963 he came in a translation by Charlotte Ujlaky and 2009 with an afterword by Péter Esterházy as a remake again in German out.
