Gézier-et-Fontenelay

Gézier -et- Fontenelay is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Gézier -et- Fontenelay situated at an altitude of 250 m above sea level, about 16 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The double municipality extends to the south of the department, to the north of the Valley of the Ognon in a cavity on the Südostfuß the Monts de Gy.

The area of ​​12.10 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the undulating landscape between the river valleys of the south and Ognon Saône in the northwest. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of Gézier, which opens to the south to a plateau. This is an average of 250 m and is slightly inclined to the Valley of the Ognon out. It is primarily used for agricultural purposes. To the north, the terrain rises to the heights of the Monts de Gy with the Grand Bois de Gézier ( 353 m). Next to the northwest, the municipality's area extends into the valley widening of Fontenelay, which is drained by the Ruisseau de Poussot south to Ognon. On the adjacent plateau of the Monts de Gy the highest elevation of Gézier -et- Fontenelay is achieved with 367 m. During the plateau consists of tertiary sediments are composed of the Monts de Gy from an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous beds of the Jurassic period.

The double municipality consists of the village Gézier (250 m) on the southern edge of the Grand Bois de Gézier and the hamlet Fontenelay (270 m ) in a valley widening of the Ruisseau de Poussot midst of the Monts de Gy. Neighboring communities of Gézier -et- Fontenelay are Gy, Bucey -lès- Gy and Montboillon in the north, Etuz in the east, Chambornay -lès- Pin and Vregille in the south as well as pin and Autoreille in the West.

History

Is first mentioned in the 12th century Gézier. The place name is probably of Celtic origin and means something like wooded area. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had since the beginning of the 14th century held the Lords of Oiselay. Fontenelay, formerly Fontelenay, is mentioned for the first time already in 1137. It formed a grange of the monastery Acey. Together with the Franche -Comté came Gézier and Fontenelay with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. In 1824, merged with the previously independent Gézier Fontelenay (1821: 32 inhabitants) to double community and wore then the name affectation -et- Fontelenay. Only in 1992 the church in Gézier -et- Fontenelay has been renamed. Since 2002 Gézier -et- Fontenelay is a member of the 15 localities municipal association Communauté de communes de la Vallée de l' Ognon.

Attractions

The village church of Gézier came originally from a building from the 12th century. After a major fire in 1836 it was rebuilt. It houses a rich interior, including altars from the 18th century, statues and grave slabs. From the late 17th century, the Château de Gézier, which was built on the site of a manor house of the 12th century came from. Dating from the 19th century three wells are obtained, the Lavoir the town hall ( Mairie ) is one of the attractions. In Fontenelay are the ruins of the monastery grange Acey.

Population

With 185 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Gézier -et- Fontenelay one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 328 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1990s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Gézier -et- Fontenelay was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and agglomeration in Besançon.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Etuz by Gy. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 15 km. Further road links exist with Montboillon and pin.
