Ghanaian pound

The Ghanaian pound was the official currency of the West African state of Ghana from 14 July 1958. The Ghanaian pound replaced during the first years of independence of the State of the hitherto valid currency of the colonial era, the West African pound. The Ghanaian pound was replaced by Cedi on 19 July 1965.

The pound was divided into 20 shillings, each of 12 Penny. In 1965, the Ghana Cedi as the national currency in the exchange ratio of 1 pound = 2.4 cedi, or 1 Cedi = 100 pence a.

1958 bronze coins were issued at ½ and 1 penny to copper - nickel 3 and 6 pence and 1 and 2 shillings. On the penny the first President of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah ( founder of the Ghanaian State Kwame Nkrumah ) was presented, and the Latin inscription " Kwame Nkrumah Civitatis Ghanensis Conditor " to read.

Bills

1958 notes were issued to 10 shillings, and 1 and 5 pounds. They were produced until 1962 (10 shillings ) or until 1963.
