Ghoramara ( Bengali: ঘোড়ামারা দ্বীপ Ghoṛāmārā dbīp ) is an Indian island in the Ganges delta.

Geography

Ghoramara is located 150 km south of Kolkata in the Indian state of West Bengal, in the Sundarbans in the Bay of Bengal. The island lies in the mouth of the river Hooghly, a tributary of the Ganges. It is only a few feet above the sea and has an area of approximately 4.7 square kilometers.

The island is directly affected by the consequences of climate change. Due to erosion and sea level rise, the island has since the 1980s lost about half of its original size. A large part of the population has already left the island world.
