Gia Nadareishvili

Gia Nadareischwili (Georgian გია ნადარეიშვილი; born September 22, 1921 in Tbilisi; † 3 October 1991) was a Georgian chess player. He was one of the leading study composers in the Soviet Union. The psychiatrist at a Tbilisi clinic that specialized in endgame studies.

Life

As a student Nadareischwili 1938 began the composition of studies. In the same year he won the first prize in a Soviet tournament. In all, he composed some 500 studies. Since 1947 he was president of the Georgian Commission for chess composition and member of the central committee.

Until shortly before his death Nadareischwili participated in the annual meetings of the Permanent Commission for Chess Composition in the FIDE ( PCCC ) as a delegate of the Soviet Union. There he initiated together with John Roycroft the founding of the Study Subcommission ( Sub-Commission studies), which operates reliably up to the present time.

Nadareischwili was Chefneurologe in the neurological department of the " first Clinic Tbilisi ". He was Honoured doctor of Georgia.

Author

Nadareischwili published several works on studies. In Schachmatny etjud w Grusii in 1975 the development of the study of composition in Georgia documented and given in the preface of Wascha Neidse an overview of the work of the composers of the country.

Was published in 1990, edited together with Iuri Akobia Encyclopedia Mat w etjudach. In this book, 3567 Matt studies are systematically classified according to their mat guide.

Title

FIDE awarded him in 1960 the title of International Arbiter of chess compositions and in 1980 the title of Grandmaster for chess composition.
