Giacomo Antonio Cortuso

Giacomo Antonio Cortusi Giacomo Antonio Cortuso or Jacobus Antonius Cortusus (* 1513 in Padua, † June 21, 1603 ) was an Italian botanist.

Life

With a Regulation of the Doge Pasquale Cicogna from November 10, 1590 Giacomo Antonio Cortusi was appointed head of the company founded in 1545 in Padua Botanical Garden, the oldest botanical garden in the world, appointed. It shall be the successor of the late Melchior Wieland ( Guilandinus ).

Ehrentaxon

Charles Plumier named in his honor a genus Cortusa. Linnaeus took over later this genus not but put them to the genus Thalia the plant family of arrowroot family ( Marantaceae ).

Linnaeus named after him the genus Cortusa the plant family Primulaceae ( Primulaceae ). It also might Pietro Andrea Mattioli copyright holder of this name.
