Giacomo della Porta

Giacomo della Porta (c. 1532 Porlezza, Lombardy, † 1602 ) was an Italian architect and sculptor.

He was a pupil of Michelangelo and the most important mediator of his architectural achievements. After 1563 della Porta led using the plans of Michelangelo from the transformation of the Capitol Square with conservators and Senatorial Palace. In 1573 he was commissioned after the death of his teacher, Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola with the supervision of Il Gesù, the mother church of the Jesuit order, the facade of which he completed in 1584 according to his own plans. Also in 1573 the management of the construction of St. Peter's, he was assigned for a year, the dome of which he completed along with Domenico Fontana from 1588 to 1590 and increased in deviation from the plans of Michelangelo once to four meters.
