Giammateo Asola

Giovanni Matteo Asola (* 1532 or earlier Verona, † October 1, 1609 in Venice ) was an Italian conductor and composer.

About Youth and formation is not known. From 1577 to 1591 he worked in Treviso, Vicenza and Verona as a conductor, after which he went to Venice, where he remained until his death.

He created a plethora of very different spiritual works, including masses, motets and madrigals, and was one of the main representatives of the Venetian church music of his time. In addition, he was one of the first to use regularly figured bass.
