Giampietrino

Giampietrino, actually Giovanni Pietro Rizzoli, ( documented 1495-1549 ), was an Italian painter of the Lombard school and the Leonardo circle.

Very prolific painter of large altarpieces, Madonna, female saints half-length and mythological female figures. For a long time the true identity of the artist, the one known only as the so-called Giampietrino was unknown. In 1929 Suida on the presumption, it could perhaps be a Giovanni Battista Belmonte as a signed with this name Madonna has been brought from 1509 with Giampietrino in conjunction. Since this panel, however, was poorly received, he wanted not be determined definitively whether it is actually autograph. Meanwhile, this assumption is considered obsolete and is mainly identified with a traditional documents by Giovanni Pietro Rizzoli.

Giampietrino can be regarded as extremely gifted painter who has contributed significantly to the spread of the late style of Leonardo da Vinci. He has numerous templates Leonardo adapted, but also left numerous efficient own compositions. Many pictures have been preserved in several versions.
