Gian-Franco Kasper

Gian- Franco Kasper ( born January 24, 1944 in St. Moritz ) is a Swiss sports official. He is the current president of the International Ski Federation ( FIS ) and since 2000 a member of the International Olympic Committee.

Life

Kasper studied psychology, philosophy and journalism at the University of Zurich. After graduation, he worked as an editor for the Courrier de St- Moritz. In 1974 he took over the construction of a new Swiss tourist offices in Montreal and moved in 1975 at the suggestion of then-president Marc Hodler to the International Ski Federation. There he took over from Sigge Bergman the post of Secretary General. This office he held for 23 years and was elected in May 1998 as the successor of Hodler president of the Association of the FIS Congress.

The International Olympic Committee voted in September 2000 Kasper during the 111th Session in Sydney to his member. Since 1 January 2003, he is also a member of the Executive Committee of the World Anti -Doping Agency ( WADA).

On 14 December 2007, Kasper was awarded in recognition of his many years of service to the sport, the spread of the Olympic thought and the promotion and management of the international skiing by the Bulgarian President Parvanov with an honorary doctorate from the University of Sofia.
