Gianfranco Gardin

Gianfranco Agostino Gardin, OFM Conv ( born March 15, 1944 in San Polo di Piave, Treviso, Italy Province ) was an Archbishop Curia of the Roman Catholic Church and the bishop of Treviso.

Life

Gianfranco Gardin resigned after his school days in the Minorit and put on 4 October 1965 in Padua perpetual profession from. On March 21, 1970, he received the sacrament of Holy Orders. Then Gardin was sent to continue his studies in Rome. He received his doctorate at the Pontifical Lateran University in Moral Theology.

From 1973 to 1988, Gianfranco Agostino Gardin, Vice - Rector of the Theological Seminary of his order in Padua. In addition, he was a lecturer in moral theology at the Institute Sant'Antonio Dottore and editor of the newspaper Il Messaggero di Sant'Antonio. In 1980, the magazine Gardin Credere oggi, was a Director until 1998. From 1988 to 1995 Gianfranco Gardin served as Provincial of the Order province of Padua and from 1995 to 2001 he was Minister General of the Friars Minor. Gardin was representative of the Union of Superiors General at the Synod of European Bishops and finally 2000 Chairman of the Union in 1999. From 2005 to 2006 he was Managing Director of newspaper Messaggero di Sant'Antonio.

On 10 July 2006 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. Titular Archbishop of Cissa and Secretary of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life. He received his episcopal consecration on 26 August of the same year, Cardinal Secretary of State Angelo Sodano at the Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua. Co-consecrators were Piergiorgio Silvano Nesti the archbishops and Mario Virgilio Atzei. November 1, 2007 Gardin opted to the titular Torcello.

On 18 December 2009 Gardin was by Benedict XVI. appointed bishop of Treviso and bestowed on him the title of Archbishop ad personam. The inauguration took place on 7 February 2010.
