Gianni Celati

Gianni Celati (* 1937 in Sondrio ) is an Italian writer and translator. He lives in southern England and Brighton in Bologna.

Celati doctorate in connection to the study of English at the University of Bologna with a thesis on James Joyce. Italo Calvino, formerly director of the Einaudi publishing house was of a shorter publication Celatis so impressed that he published several of his novels from 1971. 1975 Celati was a lecturer in English and American literature at the University of Bologna. As early as 1980 he said goodbye to final of academia in order to pursue writing and film work.

He has written numerous authors translated into Italian, as Jonathan Swift, Mark Twain and Roland Barthes. For his dense and fantastic stories he always takes years. He addressed preferably modern living conditions and selects particular " maverick ", bohemians and vagabonds as protagonists of his stories.
