Gianni Romme

Gianni Petrus Cornelis Romme ( born February 12, 1973 in Lage Zwaluwe ) is a Dutch speed skater and coach.

Career

Rummy was in 2000 in Milwaukee and 2003 in Gothenburg World Champion in the all around. In 2003 he also won in Heerenveen the title at the European Championships all-around.

Rummy won seven titles at the World Single Distance Championships. Four times he won it over 10000 meters (1996, 1997, 1998, 2000) and three times over 5000 meters (1998, 1999, 2000).

At the 1998 Olympics in Nagano Romme was over 5000 meters and 10,000 meters Olympic champion. Four years later he won in Salt Lake City Silver 10000 meters behind his countryman Jochem Uytdehaage.

Romme presented during his career at eight world records and led the Peerage for 118 days. For his achievements in 2000, he was awarded the Oscar Mathisen Memorial Trophy.
