Giannis Goumas

Ioannis Goumas (Greek Ιοάννης Γκούμας, born May 24, 1975 in Ampelonas, Larisa ) is a former Greek football player and current coach.

Career

Born in Thessaly near Larisa central defender is one of many of today's Greek players have emerged from the youth academies of Panathinaikos Athens. 1994 Goumas managed the leap into the men's team and has since become an important support in the defense of the Greek tradition of the club. Goumas captain of his team from 2004 to 2005 and 2006 to 2008, with whom he celebrated three championships and two national cup wins. With Panathinaikos Goumas counts 64 European Cup games, making his club record holder.

1999 debuted Goumas first time in a friendly against Finland for the Greek national team. Previously, he completed between 1995 and 1997 a total of 21 caps for the Greek U- 21st Since then, he heard regularly in the squad and therefore belongs to the team that in 2004 Portugal sensational under coach Otto Rehhagel European Football Championship was where it was not used.

A year later, he participated in the Confederations Cup in 2005 partly in Germany, where Goumas was allowed to complete two games, but the Greeks were eliminated in the first round.

In 2008 he was called up to the squad of the Greeks for the European Football Championship 2008 in Austria and Switzerland, but came to no use. He played 45 international matches, but scored no goals.

2009 Goumas left after 15 years, 277 first division matches and scored 27 goals while the club.
