Giclée

As Giclee printing of large-format, artistic, digital images is called with inkjet printers.

The term is derived from French " gicler " for " squirt, to spray" and is occasionally also Anglified as " giclee " used. It was first used for "Iris prints " that were printed in the early 1990s on the Scitex printers Iris Model Four. He was dedicated to the issue of proofs with which images were evaluated before mass production.

Giclee generally stands for high-resolution, large-format prints to inkjet printers with non-fading dye or pigment- based inks. At these pressures typically six to twelve different colored inks are used.

Although this type printouts was initially intended only for testing purposes, many artists and photographers inkjet printer now as an alternative to lithography in the production of smaller editions or reproductions. The costs are much lower than other production techniques for small quantities.

Well-known manufacturers of printers for Giclee Prints are Canon, Eastman Kodak, Hewlett -Packard, Seiko and Epson.
